Our Organizers: Meet the Team

MOLLEE R.

Kuma-Mura

Mollee was involved in the JET Program 2012-2013, in the small town of Kuma-Mura in Kumamoto Prefecture. She is originally from a small town called Colleyville, which is located between Dallas and Fort-Worth Texas. After JET, she moved to North Carolina to pursue a graduate degree in counseling at Wake Forest University. She now works as an elementary school counselor and as a private practice therapist. When she isn’t counseling she loves to run, hike, travel, eat, and spend time with her dog, Bailey.

KATHRYN H.

Izumo-Shi

Kathryn participated in the JET Program from 2010-2013, in the lush nature and ancient history of the little known (understatement!) Shimane prefecture. A true Carolina girl, she grew up in Durham, North Carolina. Her grandfather's roots in the Navy led his family to Japan, and eventually led her to dream of going there herself. Upon completing her third year on the JET Program, she took another teaching position in Japan and spent two more years in Nagoya. She’s now involved in the Human Resources field and is working towards her Global certification. She’s a die-hard JPOP aficionado, loves movies, board games, and follows Figure Skating like most people watch football.

JULIA W.

Iwate-Ken

Julia was a JET from 2010-2011 in "the frozen North" Tohoku region. While growing up on a family farm near the beaches of Eastern NC, she spent her childhood dreaming of travel & adventure. She graduated with a B.A. in English Language & Literature in 2010 & chased that childhood dream to rural Iwate Prefecture. There, she found herself surrounded by natural scenes & historic landmarks chronicled in Basho's Narrow Passage to the Deep North, teaching at a school founded by famous poet Miyazawa Kenji, embraced by a Northern culture surprisingly akin to her Southern roots... & falling ever deeper in love with a wondrous life-saving invention known as "kotatsu". A NC Teaching Fellow, she returned from Japan to teach high school English for nearly 5 years before making a career switch into financial services. In her free time she enjoys reading, hiking, spoiling her adopted fur baby, supporting Charlotte arts, & (as a beach girl) nearly any activity that requires being on or near the water.
